Artificial intelligence and data analytics have transformed the governance of existing digital platforms and enabled new platforms, which have become increasingly pervasive in our society. Web3 has also brought the platform economy to a different stage. As the blockchain-based web includes cryptocurrencies, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), and decentralized finance, the users can read, write, and even own their own versions of the web. It has fundamentally transformed the space for commercial and social interactions at both domestic and cross-border levels. However, the new face of the digital environment has also led to numerous unsolved legal issues. Based on their respective strength in law and digital technologies, the Centre for Legal Innovation and Digital Society (CLINDS) at CUHK LAW and Department of Law, School of Social Sciences, University of Manchester (UoM) aim to generate research synergy by collaboratively examining the regulatory challenges associated with Web3 and the platform economy. This conference is part of a larger collaborative project supported by the CUHK-UoM Research Fund.
