Ms. Angela Abala is the Research and Development Lead at the Singapore International Dispute Resolution Academy (“SIDRA”), a platform for thought leadership in international dispute resolution theory, practice, and policy at the Yong Pung How School of Law (“YPHSL”), Singapore Management University. She is also an Adjunct Teaching Mentor at YPHSL. She is one of the co-authors of the SIDRA International Dispute Resolution Survey: 2022 and 2024 Final Reports.

As an experienced dispute resolution trainer, Angela has worked with practitioners and government officials globally. Her research focuses on international dispute resolution, including commercial arbitration, mediation, and investor-state dispute settlement. Angela has published extensively in leading journals, addressing topics like investor-state mediation, third-party funding in mediation, and arbitrability and public policy issues in the Philippines. She has also been a speaker at arbitration and mediation events in Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia.

Angela is an accredited mediator at the Singapore International Mediation Institute. She also serves as an Assistant Editor for Southeast Asia at the Kluwer Arbitration Blog. She previously worked as an Associate Solicitor at the Philippine Office of the Solicitor General and as a Judicial Fellow for the Hon. Charles N. Brower.

 

Ms. Zhang Yuying is a Research Associate at the Singapore International Dispute Resolution Academy. Her research areas focus on international dispute resolution, namely international commercial arbitration, mediation and investor-State dispute settlement. She is part of the research team involved in a recent law reform project on the International Arbitration Act (IAA) commissioned by the Singapore Ministry of Law in light of the IAA’s 30th anniversary.

She is one of the co-authors of the SIDRA Survey 2024: Final Report, a survey collating response from counsels around the world on their experience using dispute resolution mechanisms. Yuying has also published in reputable journals like the Journal of International Arbitration.

She has spoken at many events such as the 6th UNCITRAL Inter-sessional Meeting held in Singapore and other academic conferences, e.g. the 115th Society of International Scholars (Bristol) and the 31st ANZSIL (Melbourne). She is also an accredited Level 1 mediator with the Singapore International Mediation Institute. With her background in mediation, she has trained foreign lawyers and government officials in capacity-building workshops in countries such as Brunei, Vietnam and Samoa.
She teaches in the Yong Pung How School of Law (Singapore Management University) on mediation and arbitration in her capacity as an Adjunct Teaching Mentor as well.
