Katherine Renhe Tsiang 蒋人和 has her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and is the Associate Director of the Center for the Art of East Asia in the Department of Art History at the University of Chicago. She coordinates the projects and events that extend the reach of studies of East Asian art beyond the classroom and library. Katherine’s own special fields of research have been in Asian ceramics, Buddhist art, and the importance of cultural interaction in the arts of Asia. She has recently curated an exhibition with the Smart Museum of Art of the University of Chicago of sculptures from a group of sixth century cave shrines in China. Entitled “Echoes of the Past: The Buddhist Cave Temples of Xiangtangshan,” it incorporates 3D digital images with stone sculptures originally from the caves. In 2011-2012 it will travel to the Freer-Sackler Gallery in Washington D.C., the Meadows Museum in Dallas, and the San Diego Museum of Art.
