CUHK Establishes the Vice-Chancellor’s Global Alumni Advisory Board and Distinguished Alumni-in-Residence ProgrammeUniversity Riding on Strong Alumni Network to Gain Strategic Advice
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) today announced the establishment of the Vice-Chancellor’s Global Alumni Advisory Board (GAAB). Chaired by Professor Rocky S. Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, GAAB consists of 12 distinguished alumni from different parts of the world and different industries, who will provide strategic advice to CUHK in fulfilling its vision and goal; to be acknowledged locally, nationally and internationally as a first-class comprehensive research university. GAAB members will advise on strengthening the global profile of CUHK, as well as soliciting resources and opportunities in support of CUHK’s advancement and its impact generating activities. At the same time, CUHK also announced the establishment of the Distinguished Alumni-in-Residence Programme (DARP) in which distinguished alumni are invited back to the alma mater to share their valuable experience with students, alumni and staff members of CUHK in order to enhance the learning experience of the CUHK community.
“CUHK currently has over 200,000 alumni, many of whom have been making remarkable achievements in various professional areas and great contributions to the world. I established the GAAB to bring into play the advantages of CUHK’s strong global alumni network and resources. The 12 GAAB members come from different professions around the world and graduated in different periods. They are a think tank for their alma mater by making use of their own areas of expertise and they act as ambassadors for CUHK. Together with CUHK Convocation, The Federation of Alumni Associations of CUHK and over a hundred local and overseas alumni organisations, the newly established GAAB will capitalise on the expertise and resources of our alumni and the University will grow in strength,” said Professor Rocky S. Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK.
Professor Tuan continued, “To strengthen the linkage among alumni, students and staff members, we are going to launch the DARP. Distinguished alumni from different professions will be invited to return to their alma mater and share their experience and insights with the CUHK community via different kinds of activities. Distinguished alumni will pass on their valuable experience to students and young alumni in order to enhance the learning experience of the CUHK community.”

Distinguished Alumni-in-Residence Programme (DARP)
The Distinguished Alumni-in-Residence Programme (DARP) aims to engage with alumni who have distinguished achievements in different professions, to share their industry wisdom and insights with students, alumni (especially young alumni) and staff members of CUHK through different kinds of activities. The invited distinguished alumni will not only give back to the alma mater, but become role models for students and young alumni and expand the overall learning experience of the CUHK community. One to two distinguished alumni will be invited annually for a three to five-day visit to the campus to give open lectures, attend round-table discussion sessions and social activities, give career guidance to students and attend other non-official exchange activities. The first DARP activity will tentatively be held in the second half of 2018. The CUHK Convocation provides full supports to DARP by raising funding for the programme.
