Two CUHK scholars named 2024 Fellows of ACM
Professor Irwin King of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Professor Xing Guoliang of the Department of Information Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) have been elected Fellows of Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) for the Class of 2024. They were recognised for their outstanding contributions to the theory and applications of machine learning in social computing, and to embedded AI and mobile computing systems, respectively.
Professor King said: “I am honoured and delighted to be named a Fellow of the ACM. This recognition reflects my years of dedicated research in theoretical and applied machine learning. I am deeply grateful for the University’s and my colleagues’ unwavering support. I will continue to create and develop cutting-edge models and algorithms in social computing and related areas, aiming to make greater contributions to trustworthy AI for society.”
Professor Xing said: “I feel incredibly proud and inspired to receive recognition as a Fellow of the ACM. I would like to thank the researchers who have collaborated with me, and the University for its support. AI technology is becoming a part of almost every computing system we use today. I’m committed to pushing forward the development of AI for mobile systems such as smartphones and autonomous vehicles, making them smarter and more useful in everyday life.”
About the ACM Fellow Programme
The ACM Fellow Programme, initiated in 1993, is the organisation’s most prestigious membership grade. It recognises the top 1% of ACM members for their outstanding accomplishments in technology and/or outstanding service to ACM and the larger computing community. For 2024, 55 members have been elected as ACM fellows for their transformative contributions to computing science and technology. ACM will formally recognise the 2024 Fellows in June 2025 in San Francisco.
