The Chinese University of Hong Kong Holds its 72nd Congregation for the Conferment of Degrees
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) held its 72nd Congregation for the Conferment of Degrees today (6 December). Dr. Vincent H.C. Cheng, Chairman of the University Council presided at the Congregation.
Three distinguished persons were conferred honorary doctorates in recognition of their outstanding contributions in their respective areas of achievement to educational, academic and cultural progress, the promotion of community welfare, and the development of the University. They are: Prof. Richard Charles Levin, Prof. Bell Yung and Fr. Alfred J. Deignan.
Prof. Richard Charles Levin was conferred the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa. Prof. Bell Yung received the degree of Doctor of Literature, honoris causa. Fr. Alfred J. Deignan was awarded the degree of Doctor of Social Science, honoris causa. Prof. Richard Charles Levin received the degree in absentia and presented a video message at the Congregation.
Besides the three honorary doctorate degrees, a total of 346 doctoral degrees were conferred at the Congregation. These included seven Doctor of Medicine, 327 Doctor of Philosophy, 11 Doctor of Education, and one Doctor of Psychology.
