The Chinese University of Hong Kong Holds 82nd Congregation for the Conferment of Degrees
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) held its 82nd Congregation for the Conferment of Degrees today (1 December). Dr. Norman N.P. Leung, Chairman of the Council of CUHK, presided at the Congregation.
Three distinguished persons were conferred honorary degrees in recognition of their outstanding contributions to their respective areas of achievement in social, educational, arts and cultural progress and the promotion of community welfare. They are: the Honourable Chief Justice MA Tao-li, Geoffrey, Prof. AU Ho-nien and the Venerable Master HSING YUN.
The Honourable Chief Justice Ma Tao-li, Geoffrey was conferred the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa. Prof. Au Ho-nien received the degree of Doctor of Literature, honoris causa. The Venerable Master Hsing Yun was awarded the degree of Doctor of Social Science, honoris causa. Master Hsing Yun was unable to come to Hong Kong to attend the Congregation. The University conferred the degree on him in absentia.
Besides the three honorary degrees, a total of 422 doctoral degrees were conferred at the Congregation. These included 1 Doctor of Medicine, 399 Doctor of Philosophy, 15 Doctor of Education, 5 Doctor of Nursing, and 2 Doctor of Psychology.
