Statement by Heads of Universities

19 Oct 2022

We welcome the proposed policies announced in the Chief Executive’s (CE) 2022 Policy Address in relation to supporting the development of higher education as well as the innovation and technology industry in Hong Kong. Among these measures, attracting key talents and increasing the number of UGC-funded research postgraduate places will provide an abundant supply of talents for the future development Hong Kong’s economy.

We appreciate the HKSAR Government for its strong support of Hong Kong’s higher education sector. It is encouraging to note that these new measures put forward by the CE have fulfilled the role and positioning of Hong Kong under “One Country, Two Systems” as outlined in the report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

We will continue to actively collaborate with universities around the world, and are committed to making contributions in areas including nurturing talents, scientific research and services to the community for Hong Kong and the country, promoting Hong Kong to become an international innovation and technology hub, an international education hub, and an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange.
