University Lecture on Civility

The I·CARE Programme of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is privileged to have Professor Lung Yingtai, a renowned Taiwanese writer, as the speaker of its University Lecture on Civility this year.  The University Lecture on Civility is one of the most anticipated annual events on campus which has been rolled out for seven years.  As suggested by the title ‘The 13 Things Learnt from the Adventure of a Perplexing Youth’, Professor Lung will share her views of the period from adolescence to adulthood during the lecture to be held on 22 September at the Concourse of New Asia College.  A screening session of the documentary, Seeing Off 1949 – Lung Yingtai’s Journey, will be held a day prior to Professor Lung’s lecture.  This documentary was shot while Professor Lung had been writing her literary work, The Big River Big Sea (1949).  Professor Lung will join the screening event and speak about her journey to exploring 1949. Members of the public are welcome to join the above activities by making registration at: https://cloud.itsc.cuhk.edu.hk/webform/view.php?id=3771220.

Based in Taiwan, Professor Lung had been teaching at the University of Heidelberg and the National Tsing Hua University, in addition to The University of Hong Kong (HKU).  She served as the first Commissioner of the Department of Cultural Affairs of Taipei City Government from 1999 to 2003 and was appointed by HKU as the first Hung Leung Hau Ling Distinguished Fellow in Humanities in 2008, where she resided in the Robert Black College and completed her literary work, The Big River Big Sea (1949).  She was then appointed the first Commissioner of the Ministry of Culture, Republic of China (Taiwan) from 2012 to 2014.  Professor Lung has published numerous literary works which are prevalent among the Chinese world.
