Prof. Joseph Sung, the seventh Vice-Chancellor and President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), is stepping down on 31 December 2017. Today (29 December) is his last working day as CUHK’s Vice-Chancellor and President and he has attended the ‘Staff Dinner with Professor Sung’.  Over 400 CUHK staff members at the dinner have said farewell to Prof. Sung.

Mr. Eric Ng, Vice-President (Administration) and University Secretary of CUHK, delivered a vote of thanks to Prof. Sung at the dinner. He said that Prof. Sung, in leading CUHK, set various milestones in his tenure as the Vice-Chancellor and President by meeting many challenges, which included resuming the four-year undergraduate programme in 2012, successfully establishing the CUHK (Shenzhen) campus and preparing for the CUHK private teaching hospital, both in 2014. The CUHK Strategic Plan 2016-2020, which outlines the blueprint for CUHK’s future development, was also set out under his leadership.

Prof. Sung sang a song together with special guest Ms. Paula Tsui, which so moved the audience that they all joined in. The highlight of the farewell dinner has been staff members from different departments having group photos with Prof. Sung.  A video featuring CUHK Pro-Vice-Chancellors / Vice-Presidents, various staff members and students expressing their thoughts about Prof. Sung and extending their best wishes to him was screened during the dinner. A special giant thank-you card formed out of scores of thank you cards with greetings written by CUHK staff members and students has been presented to Prof. Sung. All attending are included in a group photo taken with Prof. Sung before the end of the dinner.
