CUHK’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Rocky S. Tuan leads a delegation to Beijing
Professor Rocky S. Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), led a delegation of CUHK senior management that visited Beijing from 4 to 6 September, 2024. The delegation, which comprised Professor Poon Wai-yin, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education), Professor Chan Wai-yee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Developments), Professor Fan Xitao, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Professor Song Chunshan, Dean of the Faculty of Science and other senior administrators, held a conference with leaders from the Ministry of Education, and visited a number of institutions and universities including the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, Peking University, the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, and the Beijing Talent Work Bureau, discussing future developments in strengthening international academic exchanges, deepening educational and research cooperation, nurturing innovative talents and promoting comprehensive, sustained collaboration between CUHK and mainland partners.
During the visit, Professor Tuan attended the World Philanthropy Forum jointly organised by CUHK and Tsinghua University. In his opening speech, he emphasised the importance of philanthropy in promoting social progress and expressed his hope to unite the efforts and wisdom of various sectors to jointly promote philanthropic causes regionally and globally, and to actively pursue the common goal of sustainable development. The delegation also shared CUHK’s latest developments and achievements with over 100 alumni in a Beijing alumni dinner.
The three-day visit concluded on 6 September, with Professor Tuan saying: “The Beijing trip was fruitful. We introduced the latest progress of CUHK’s strategic plan to the ministries and actively promoted exchanges and collaborations with mainland partners in multiple areas, including research-academia-industry development. We will continue to integrate into the national development plan, explore new directions for knowledge sharing and innovation, collaborate with all partners to achieve greater results, and bring positive influences to our country and the world.”
