CUHK’s 60th Anniversary Global Student Concert fosters global cultural exchange through the power of music
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) hosted the 60th Anniversary Global Student Concert “Dialogues in Music: Global Connections” on campus recently, as part of the University’s diamond jubilee celebrations. The concert drew a full house of audience, plus an online audience from different parts of the world. The event was organised by CUHK’s Faculty of Arts, Department of Music, Office of Academic Links and China Engagement Office.
The Global Student Concert showcased the exceptional musical talent of students from CUHK and its esteemed partner institutions, presenting a diverse range of performances that encompassed different genres and cultures. The programme included enchanting performances by CUHK’s piano duo and soprano-clarinet-piano trio; The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen)’s clarinet-cello-piano trio; Tsinghua University’s Chinese orchestra; The University of Manchester’s student choir Ad Solem; and Waseda University’s Tsugaru-shamisen club Mitsudomoe. The concert offered the audience a sumptuous feast of music, while the student performers also enjoyed fruitful cross-cultural exchanges both on and off the stage.
CUHK’s Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Rocky S. Tuan warmly welcomed the audience in his opening remarks. He said, “This concert is a testament to CUHK’s commitment to global engagement and cultural exchange. With music as a universal phenomenon and expression, the concert will foster unity, bridge differences and promote mutual understanding among people from diverse backgrounds, transcending boundaries and creating lasting connections.”
CUHK has a longstanding commitment to promoting students’ appreciation of arts and different cultures as part of their all-round development. The University has been the cradle of numerous outstanding artists and musicians who have made significant contributions to humanity. CUHK will continue to foster cross-cultural dialogues and international exchange through various activities, aiming to grow and enhance students’ global vision.
