CUHK welcomes 2024-25 Budget Speech’s initiatives
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) welcomes the measures proposed in the 2024-25 Budget Speech to support the flourishing development of Hong Kong’s innovation and technology (I&T) sector.
A CUHK spokesperson said, “CUHK is glad to see that the Budget is allocating more resources to assist Hong Kong’s universities in their research and knowledge transfer endeavours. The government has budgeted $3 billion to launch a Frontier Technology Research Infrastructure Support Scheme. We welcome the further support available for technology transfer offices which will be a welcome boost for our efforts to ensure our research outputs are contributing to the wider economy.”
CUHK has a longstanding commitment to promote collaboration between industry and universities, as well as commercialisation of scientific research. Last year, CUHK also announced the establishment of CUHK Innovation Limited, a company dedicated to providing early-stage funding to promising CUHK start-ups.
The spokesperson continued, “CUHK also firmly supports the government’s initiatives to encourage green transformation. In 2018, CUHK and the Hong Kong Jockey Club established the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network Hong Kong Chapter (SDSN Hong Kong) to promote sustainability and coordinate professional knowledge, information and resources from different fields to address local pressing environmental, social and economic issues. In addition, CUHK is proud to be Hong Kong’s first university to announce a zero emissions target with our pledge to reach carbon neutral by 2038. This commitment stands alongside our cutting edge research into environmental protection technology and our work to drive the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.”
