Dear colleagues and students,

CUHK Resumes Classes and Reopens Offices Tomorrow (18 Sept)

I want to express my gratitude to the frontline staff who provided urgent maintenance services during the difficult conditions when super typhoon Mangkhut hit Hong Kong. Access to major roads of the campus has much improved and school bus services have resumed. In view of this, classes will resume and offices will reopen as normal on Tuesday 18 September 2018.

The University understands that public transport services and some of the road conditions on campus will not yet have resumed to normal by tomorrow morning. Accordingly, we wish to ask teachers to be flexible when taking any class attendance and conducting learning activities. Similarly, we ask Department Chairmen and Unit Heads to be understanding should some staff be less punctual. As debris will remain on the surface of some roads and pavements, the University appeals to all drivers and pedestrians to exercise care and caution. 

I would like to express a special thank you to all staff who remained stationed at their positions during the typhoon, especially frontline staff from the Estates Management Office and the Security & Transport Office. Their commitment to safeguarding the campus was instrumental in ensuring the safety of all staff members and students, and helping the campus to resume normal operation at the earliest possible opportunity.

My thanks also go to all hall wardens and students who stayed in the hostels, and worked together and made quick and effective contingency measures when flooding or other emergency situations occurred in the halls. Their communal spirit of mutual assistance helped to ensure the safety of everyone in the dormitory.
