CUHK School of Architecture Presents 26th Master of Architecture Graduation Show
“Atlas” is a spatial compilation of interactions between human lives and living spaces. In exploration of the relationship between people and different spaces, this year’s Master’s graduates from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)’s School of Architecture attempt to closely connect architecture and contemporary society through their graduation projects. Themed “Atlas”, the 26th Master of Architecture Graduation Show will be held from 11 to 15 June 2022 at the Pao Galleries, Hong Kong Arts Centre, Wan Chai and from 20 to 30 June 2022 at the Lee Shau Kee Architecture Building, CUHK. Members of the public are welcome to visit the Graduation Show. Admission is free.
68 graduation projects will be presented in the forms of design layouts and models, with themes evolving around “Designing art museum”, “Creating scenery”, “Designing transportation linkage”, “Regenerative landscape”, “Place of making”, “Urban development”, “Communal spaces”, and more.
Under the theme “Creating scenery”, graduates are proposing a resonance between architecture and environment by incorporating natural elements into architectural design and pursuing a balance between ecological value and modern design. One project takes the development of the Soko Islands in the southwestern waters off Lantau Island as a subject, to reflect upon land uses and ecology protection. It suggests building a greenhouse for growing rare tree species as an alternative use for the radioactive waste storage site and former retention center.
For projects under the theme of “Designing art museum”, graduates are proposing creative and unconventional designs that help reshape space inside a museum. For example, a student is trying to explore art space within a designed museum without the constraint of scales, purposefully providing a blueprint of how utilising exhibition space could encourage a more diverse art creation.
