Professor Huang Hui Robin

Professor Huang Hui Robin, Professor from the Faculty of Law at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), has received the Second-class Award in Books and Theses of the 9th Round Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards (Humanities and Social Sciences) from the Ministry of Education (MoE) of the People’s Republic of China.

CUHK’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Sham Mai-har expressed her delight at Professor Huang receiving this award. His work not only systematically deconstructs the institutional logic of fintech regulation in China but also examines the Chinese model within a global governance framework through comparative research. This provides policymakers and academia with a reference that combines theoretical insights with practical relevance, while also highlighting CUHK’s commitment to the humanities and social sciences, as well as its international outlook.”

Professor Huang’s award-winning publication Fintech Regulation in China: Principles, Policies and Practices (Cambridge University Press, 2021) is the first English-language book focusing on the development and regulation of fintech in China. It was mainly completed in 2020, during a period when fintech was growing at a faster pace due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The book comprehensively explores the issues surrounding fintech regulation and governance models in China, identifying and analysing the environmental factors that affect policy formulation and implementation, as well as their interrelationships. Professor Huang also conducts studies comparing mainland China’s practices and those of major international fintech jurisdictions such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore and Hong Kong, providing an in-depth understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the Chinese experience from an international perspective and based on it, setting out relevant suggestions for improvement. The Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards (Humanities and Social Sciences) is one of the most reputable and influential awards in the field of humanities and social sciences across China, which was established by the MoE in 1995 and is presented every three years. These awards aim to recognise researchers in higher educational institutions who have made outstanding contributions in the fields of humanities and social sciences, promoting high-quality research that contributes to the development of a strong educational nation in the new era.
