CUHK receives the ‘Most Supportive Group Award’ in Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon for 5th consecutive year
This year over 3,100 runners from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) marathon team will take part in the forthcoming Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2017, setting a new record for the number of CUHK runners throughout the years. The CUHK marathon team is the second largest team in the competition this year, so CUHK has received the ‘Most Supportive Group Award’ in the marathon, for the fifth consecutive year. Professor Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, received the award on behalf of CUHK last Saturday (4 February).
The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon will take place on the February 2nd this year. On the race day, on-field physiotherapy will be provided by the CUHK Sports Medicine Team. Over 400 CUHK cheerers will also give their support at several cheering spots along the racing routes.
To better prepare the CUHK runners for the race, professionals from the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education, Physical Education Unit and the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, CUHK, conducted 4 sessions of marathon seminars and training before the race. In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education this year, additional scientific support and services are offered to novice runners by the Research Group for Physical Activity and Sports Nutrition (RPASN) at the Department, so that they can better understand their physical fitness status.
CUHK also prepared 2 video clips with race training tips. In the videos, Miss Chow Chi Ngan Alison, Assistant Lecturer of the Physical Education Unit, CUHK, who is also an elite marathon runner in Hong Kong and the local representative in the 2014 Asian Games, taught pacing management as one of the important running strategies. Mr. Daniel Lee, former member of the Hong Kong Triathlon National Squad and Lecturer of the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education, CUHK and Mr. Chan Chi-ming, Lecturer of the Physical Education Unit, CUHK, shared useful tactics like drafting, cutting corners, reeling in runners and positive mantras, to be used during the race.
