The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is committed to excellence in teaching. Starting from 1999, the Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award has been given annually to exemplary teachers from the faculties in recognition of their outstanding teaching performance. This year eight awardees were presented this prestigious award by Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Benjamin W. Wah at the Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award Presentation Ceremony 2009 last month. The eight recipients are:

– Prof. Jane JACKSON, Department of English, Faculty of Arts
– Prof. CHAN Chi-fai, Andrew, Department of Marketing, Faculty of Business Administration
– Prof. HA Sau-ching, Amy, Department of Sports Science and Physical Education, Faculty of Education
– Dr. WONG Tsz-yeung, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Engineering
– Prof. Stephen HALL, Faculty of Law
– Prof. CHAU Pak-chun, Janita, The Nethersole School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine
– Prof. NG Kee-pui, Dennis, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science
– Prof. MA Lai-chong, Joyce, Department of Social Work, Faculty of Social Science

The exemplary teachers were nominated by their respective departments based on their teaching performance, peer review and course evaluation. The departmental nominees were then presented to the Faculty level for screening and not more than three nominees from each Faculty will be submitted to the Vice-Chancellor for the award. Each awardee is presented a certificate and a gold medal. A total of 80 outstanding educators have been given the award since 1999, some of whom received the award more than once in recognition of their continued outstanding teaching performance.
