CUHK Orientation Day for Undergraduate Admissions on Saturday Introducing the Latest Admissions Information and New Programmes

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Orientation Day for Undergraduate Admissions will be held on Saturday, 21 October 2017.  The Orientation Day provides the latest admissions and programme information and opens the faculty and college facilities to let students, parents and teachers have a better understanding of CUHK.  The Orientation Day for Undergraduate Admissions in the ‘CUHK Mobile’ application has also been updated with details of all activities and a campus map for visitors to plan their visit and transport routings.  Interested parties are welcome to download or update the ‘CUHK Mobile’ application (applicable to iOS and Android users).

Admission Talks Provide Useful Information

CUHK will organise several admission talks and Q&A sessions which will introduce different ways to get admitted into CUHK to suit the needs of students from different backgrounds.  The talks will include the JUPAS and Non-JUPAS schemes, for applicants with sub-degree or overseas qualifications and for applicants from the mainland, to be conducted in Cantonese, English and Putonghua. The first admission talk will be held at 10 am in the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall focusing on the latest admission arrangement this year.

Independent Enrollment of Biomedical Engineering in 2018

Jointly provided by the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Medicine, the Department of Biomedical Engineering will begin independent enrollment in 2018-19 via JUPAS. Admission talks will introduce the programme details.  Over the past 20 years, biomedical engineering has developed rapidly. Advanced medical technologies, such as robots and nano medical instruments and products, big data analysis on precision medicine, as well as biomaterials for regenerative medicine, have an important impact on global human health.  Set against the ageing population worldwide, the local and global demand for biomedical engineering professionals will become increasingly ardent. The Department will shoulder a most important mission to nurture professionals for the future to carry out new scientific research projects and transformation technology which will improve the quality and effectiveness of medical services.

Faculty of Law and King’s College London Offer New Programme

CUHK and King’s College London (King’s) have established an exciting new partnership to offer a Dual LLB-JD Degree Programme commencing in 2018-19.  Students of the Programme will have the opportunity to study in two world-class law schools and to obtain both an undergraduate degree and a postgraduate degree in law in four years.  Students will spend their first two years at King’s in London and the second two years at CUHK in Hong Kong.  Together, the two degrees provide the first step towards qualification in English Law and the Law in Hong Kong.  The Programme provides students with exciting and important competitive advantages in an international workplace.

Highlighted Diversified Programmes

CUHK’s Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Science and Faculty of Social Science will introduce all their departments and programmes by organising exhibitions, admission talks, laboratory and facility visits and different kinds of demonstrations.  Some Faculties will also arrange group discussion on what life is like in the university with current CUHK students who will talk about study and living features in CUHK.

Highlighted programmes from specific departments include: archaeology demonstration session and Cambodian field-trip exhibition by the Department of Anthropology; visitors experiencing discussion of different philosophical issues in the ‘Philosophy Forum’ organised by the Department of Philosophy; visitors experiencing the daily routines of financial traders in the financial trading laboratory open house by the Quantitative Finance / Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Science; trailing the Exoskeleton Rehabilitation Robotics in the Department of Biomedical Engineering laboratory; visiting a Moot Court and Seminar and Demonstration: Learn More About Mooting by the Faculty of Law; two public lectures by the Faculty of Science on “Physics of microbes: move in a bacterial way” and “Soybean research – a journey from laboratory to field”; fun economic games by the Department of Economics; guided tours to the Urban Design Studio; and a mock Putonghua exam using Computerised Oral Proficiency Assessment by the Yale-China Chinese Language Centre. All are programmes that cannot be missed. 

Opening of College Facilities

CUHK’s unique college system has been a good tradition, offering students a close and harmonious learning environment, enhancing their whole-person development as well as enriching their learning experience.  All of the nine colleges of CUHK including the Chung Chi College, New Asia College, United College, Shaw College, Morningside College, S.H. Ho College, C.W. Chu College, Wu Yee Sun College and Lee Wo Sing College will open and introduce their own culture and features with talks, exhibitions and history galleries. Students and parents can also visit the hostels, multimedia centres and all kinds of sports and leisure amenities of the colleges.  Guided tours are also organised in the University Library, Chung Chi College Elisabeth Luce Moore Library, New Asia College Ch’ien Mu Library, United College Wu Chung Multimedia Library and the Architecture Library.
