The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) will launch three new undergraduate programmes in the 2025-26 academic year to address the growing demand for diverse talent. Through these innovative programmes, CUHK aims to cultivate individuals with a forward-thinking vision and professional skills to take on leadership roles in the rapidly changing global environment. The three new programmes are:

  1. Public Humanities (JS4100)

The Bachelor of Arts in Public Humanities integrates critical skills in cultural studies with practical know-how in cultural management. Emphasising both research and theory, the programme also attaches great importance to cultural practices, knowledge transfer and public engagement. It aims to nurture a new generation of cultural professionals to build better community. Students will deepen their understanding of culture, heritage and the arts, enhance their ability to communicate and collaborate with the public, and develop research skills, cultural sensitivity, media literacy, and curating and policy-making abilities. By bringing the knowledge and values of the humanities into everyday life, the programme will support the sustainable development of various cultural enterprises in society.

  1. Human Movement Science and Health Studies (JS4320)

The Bachelor of Science in Human Movement Science and Health Studies provides an interdisciplinary learning experience focusing on human movement science, coaching, health and rehabilitation, and research-related activities. The programme covers two areas: human movement science explores the causes and consequences of human movement throughout life, including the prevention and treatment of acute and chronic conditions that cause disorders of movement; health studies emphasise the development and application principles of exercise-based preventative intervention for health management and rehabilitation. The programme offers students the option to apply for a dual degree programme with Beijing Sport University (BSU), studying for two years at CUHK and two years at BSU, and earning degrees from both institutions. This dual degree programme combines the strength from both institutions, with CUHK provides high-quality teaching and research, as well as knowledge integrating eastern and western educational disciplines and overseas exchange opportunities, while BSU offers expertise in sports rehabilitation and national-level sports training with advanced sports facilities.

  1. Materials Science and Engineering (JS4470)

The Bachelor of Engineering in Materials Science and Engineering, jointly offered by the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Science at CUHK, aims to provide students with a comprehensive education in scientific knowledge and engineering skills across multiple disciplines related to advanced materials and their innovative applications. Materials are the underpinning component of almost all kinds of technologies; innovative materials are critical to the advancement of microelectronics, advanced manufacturing, new energy and green technology, biomedicine and biotechnology, aviation and aerospace engineering. The programme’s curriculum emphasises emerging materials with new functions, including nanomaterials, energy materials, electronic materials, smart materials and biomaterials, so as to meet the high demand for scientists and engineers in advanced materials.
