CUHK admits 3,218 outstanding HKDSE students, including one “super top scorer” and over half of top 100 elite students
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has admitted, through JUPAS, 3,218 students who sat for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) examination this year. The intake this year is impressive: over 99% of them are Band A students. CUHK has admitted over half of Hong Kong’s top 100 elite students in their best five HKDSE subjects and in the number of Levels 5** and Level 5* attained, representing the highest proportion among all JUPAS-participating institutions in Hong Kong. The top elite students have been admitted to study Artificial Intelligence: Systems and Technologies, B.A. (Chinese Language Studies) and B.Ed. (Chinese Language Education), Global Business Studies, Mathematics and Mathematics Education, Medicine (MBChB) Programme, Medicine (MBChB) Programme Global Physician-Leadership Stream (GPS), Quantitative Finance, and Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Science.
In terms of median admission scores for the best five subjects, four out of the top 10 programmes and streams among the JUPAS institutions in the territory are at CUHK: Medicine (MBChB) Programme Global Physician-Leadership Stream (GPS), Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Science, Medicine (MBChB) Programme, and Global Business Studies. Medicine (Global Physician-Leadership Stream), which admitted 30 students this year, including a “super top scorer”, has been the top programme with the highest median admission scores territory-wide for 10 consecutive years.
Choice institution for students with diverse talents and interests
As a cradle for the development of all-round talent, CUHK provides a wide selection of undergraduate programmes to nurture students with diverse interests. This year, 15 CUHK programmes admitted top students with a score of 33 or above in their best five HKDSE subjects: Artificial Intelligence: Systems and Technologies, B.A. (Chinese Language Studies) and B.Ed. (Chinese Language Education), Chinese Language and Literature, Computer Science and Engineering, Enrichment Mathematics, Enrichment Stream in Theoretical Physics, Global Business Studies, History, Japanese Studies, Mathematics and Mathematics Education, Medicine (MBChB) Programme, Medicine (MBChB) Programme Global Physician-Leadership Stream (GPS), Psychology, and Quantitative Finance, and Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Science.
This year, 16 students have been admitted to CUHK through the Multi-faceted Excellence Scholarship Scheme and 102 students have been admitted under the School Principal’s Nominations Scheme. They were recognised for achievements in and outside their schools and communities. Another 17 students were admitted this year via the Sports Scholarship Scheme, thanks to their outstanding achievements in sports including athletics, cross-country racing, fencing, karate, swimming, badminton, basketball, handball, football, tennis, bowling and volleyball. One of these athletes is a member of a team that represents Hong Kong officially, 14 of them are from Hong Kong junior squads and two are members of the Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation.
