CUHK innovations win 11 awards at the Silicon Valley International Inventions Festival 2024
Researchers from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) have won 11 awards at the Silicon Valley International Inventions Festival (SVIIF) 2024, including five Gold Medals and three Silver Medals. Three of the winning inventions have also received special prizes, including the Prize of the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA), Prize of the United Inventors Association of America (UIA) and Prize of the China Association of Inventions (CAI).
CUHK Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Sham Mai-har said, “CUHK’s success at the SVIIF 2024 is a testament to our collaborative spirit and unwavering pursuit of excellence. Our inventors continue to push boundaries, creating solutions that resonate globally. I sincerely congratulate the awarded teams and applaud their hard work and creativity.”
The awarded projects are examples of CUHK’s success in knowledge transfer, translating research and innovation into tangible benefits and outcomes. Three of them were developed within the world-class InnoHK research centres led by CUHK, which collaborate with top research institutions around the world. Another three projects have been commercialised through university-supported startup companies led by CUHK researchers or become successful social enterprises. The University will continue its efforts to encourage staff and students to develop innovative solutions that help solve global issues.
The SVIIF brings together innovators from 40 countries and regions to showcase interesting inventions in the US. The festival is under the patronage of the City of Santa Clara, the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). SVIIF was created to publicise state-of-the-art inventions from around the world and provide a unique opportunity for inventors to receive not only high-ranking international awards for their inventions but also to cultivate the American market in the heart of inventions, Silicon Valley.
