CUHK Holds Staff Thankful Day to Promote Positive Work Attitude
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) will hold the second ‘Staff Thankful Day’ on 16 December to promote an atmosphere of appreciation and gratitude at workplace.
Prof. Joseph J.Y SUNG, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, shared his views in an email to all staff today (6 December) on the idea of thankfulness, ‘When we are able to distinguish between craving and need, learn to cherish and treat everything and everybody we come across as a precious gift, thankfulness will naturally fill up our hearts. Another key to staying thankful is learning to think a bit less of oneself. Whilst we focus on our own needs, we can still try to understand other people’s perspective and efforts, which will often transform our moods from being critical to being tolerant and finally appreciative and thankful.’
Professor Sung said the challenges the University had faced over the past few years had gone far beyond what any single person could do. He offered his heartfelt thanks to all colleagues for their conscientious work on a daily basis which had been his greatest help.
‘CUHK Staff Thankful Day’ is promulgated by the University’s Committee on Positive Workplace and Staff Development set up in 2013. The Committee promotes positive communication to build up mutual trust and understanding among staff members. A luncheon talk will be held on the Staff Thankful Day on the topic ‘Make your life more abundant by the power of gratitude.’
