CUHK Entrepreneur Day 2017 Showcases 70 Start-ups by CUHK MembersEmbracing Entrepreneurial Spirit
‘CUHK Entrepreneur Day 2017’ is a large scale event on the theme of entrepreneurship initiated by the CUHK Alumni Torch Fund being held today and tomorrow (12 and 13 May) on The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) campus. There is a series of talks, seminars and discussions with alumni entrepreneurs, and an exhibition showcasing nearly 70 start-ups by CUHK alumni and students.
Officiating at the opening ceremony today were Mr. Eric Ng, Vice-President of CUHK; Dr. David Chung, Under Secretary for Innovation and Technology of the HKSAR Government; and Mr. Stephen Liang, Assistant Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. A keynote speech was delivered by Alumnus Wong Wai Kay Ricky, Co-founder and Chairman of Hong Kong Television Network Limited.
Following the overwhelming success of the previous two years, this university-wide entrepreneurship event has marked its third year not only by running on a larger scale but also by launching its very first ‘CUHK Entrepreneurship Competition’ in which the winning team(s) of this stimulating competition will stand a chance to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with alumni investors.
In his speech, Mr. Eric Ng expressed his appreciation of this alumni signature event on entrepreneurship because it continues to serve as a one-stop information hub and an exchange platform for CUHK students and graduates, experienced entrepreneurs from the circle of CUHK alumni and the general public at large. He also indicated that CUHK is introducing a pioneering, university-wide Minor Programme in Entrepreneurship and Innovation (EPIN) in the 2017-18 academic year. The first of its kind in Hong Kong, EPIN is open to all undergraduate students from different faculties and departments. It will act as a platform for nurturing creativity, acquiring key entrepreneurial attributes and managing innovation processes theoretically and practically, so that the opportunities brought by various types of technological and social innovations can be grasped.
