CUHK Distinguished Visiting Professor-at-Large Yau Shing-tung awarded the Shaw Prize 2023 in Mathematical Sciences
Professor Yau Shing-tung is a world-renowned mathematician who proved the Calabi conjecture, making crucial contributions to the development of modern geometry and topology. Professor Yau has deep ties with The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He graduated from the Department of Mathematics at CUHK’s Chung Chi College, and has served as the Distinguished Visiting Professor-at-Large and the director of the Institute of Mathematical Sciences.
CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Rocky S. Tuan said, “The Shaw Prize is one of the country’s highest academic honours. Professor Yau’s receipt of this honour is a source of pride for the entire CUHK community. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere congratulations to Professor Yau on behalf of the University community and to thank him for his years of dedication to cultivating mathematical talent.”
