CUHK Chung Chi College Presents “Heritage and Prospects – Exhibition on Works from the 4th Au Kin Kung Memorial Calligraphy Competition”
The “Heritage and Prospects – Exhibition on Works from the 4th Au Kin Kung Memorial Calligraphy Competition”, organised by Chung Chi College (CCC) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), is now on display at the lobby of the Chung Chi College Administration Building until 4 January 2019. The exhibits include 30 winning entries in the Competition, as well as the calligraphy of Mr. Au Kin Kung, and two of the judges, Dr. Kan Kit Keung and Dr. Chui Pui Chee.
With the patronage of the alumni couple Dr. Kan Kit Keung and Dr. Kam Yuen Han, the College organised the 4th “Au Kin Kung Memorial Calligraphy Competition” in the first semester of the academic year, inviting participation from students at local secondary schools and tertiary institutions. The First, Second and Third Prizes as well as Merit Awards for each of the Junior Secondary, Senior Secondary and Tertiary Sections of the Competition were selected by the three judges Dr. Kan Kit Keung and Dr. Chui Pui Chee, calligraphers and painters, and Professor Mok Kar Leung Harold, Professor in the Department of Fine Arts, CUHK.
The Competition aims to arouse students’ interest in Chinese calligraphy and to commemorate Mr. Au Kin Kung, Dr. Kan’s calligraphy teacher. Mr. Au was influential in promoting calligraphy in Hong Kong. The calligraphy books he edited were widely adopted by primary and secondary schools and his calligraphy could be seen on the signboards of various shops and organisations in the last century.
