The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School announced today an impressive undergraduate student intake this year comprising more than 800 local and international students. Many of them achieved high scores in public examinations and excel in a wide range of non-academic activities such as sports, arts, community services and more. 

Among all nine JUPAS participating institutions, CUHK Business School has two out of the ten most competitive programmes/streams based on median admission scores of students’ best five subjects. These programmes/streams include Global Business Studies (GBS), Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Science (QFRM). GBS once again admitted JUPAS applicants who achieved a score of 35, i.e. Level 5** in five subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) examination this year. 

CUHK Business School is well recognised and sought after by local students who want to pursue business education at university. The School has admitted many high-calibre local and international students through various channels. Some of the incoming students include: 

• Jasmine Tang Long Ching of Good Hope School, one of the top candidates at CUHK who attained Level 5** in five subjects and Level 5* in two subjects in the HKDSE examination, gained acceptance to the GBS Programme. Tang’s favourite subject is history, and she is the founding chairperson of her secondary school’s Chinese History and Culture Club. Apart from school activities, Tang actively participated in various community programmes and received numerous awards and recognition. She was selected by the Jao Tsung-I Academy as a student ambassador of its “Silk Road Trekkers” campaign, a study tour to Xinjiang to gain a thorough understanding of the Silk Road. Tang was also named as a Best 10 Award of Wofoo Hong Kong Student Civic Ambassador in the Outstanding Student Citizen Awards 2017/18 organised by Wofoo Social Enterprises.
• Also admitted to the GBS Programme is Chloe Yeung Yuet Sang from N.T. Heung Yee Kuk Yuen Long District Secondary School, who achieved Level 5** in five subjects and Level 5* in one subject in the HKDSE examination. She was one of the Top 10 awardees of the New Territories Outstanding Student Selection 2016 and the First Runner-up of Junior Form in the Yuen Long District Outstanding Students Selection 2016, organised by the Federation of the New Territories Youth and the Federation of Yuen Long Youth. 

CUHK Business School is dedicated to building a culturally, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse academic environment. To achieve this goal, the School admits outstanding international students each year. For the upcoming academic year, the School will welcome 223 students from 19 countries and regions, including Canada, Chile, China, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Mexico, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, UK and the United States.

In addition, 28 exceptionally talented students were admitted to the School through the Sports Scholarship Scheme (SSS), School Principals’ Nomination Scheme (SPN) and Multi-faceted Excellence Scholarship (MFES). The MFES was started by the HKSAR Home Affairs Bureau in 2015. Through the scholarship scheme, local undergraduate students are awarded full-tuition fee scholarships by the government each year in recognition of their achievements in non-academic areas such as sports, arts and community service. The School takes pride in admitting two MFES awardees, including: 

• Alex Cheng Ho, a graduate of St. Stephen’s College, was admitted to the Quantitative Finance Programme. He won the Overall Champion of the Year (Aged 15 or under) organised by the Hong Kong, China Rowing Association for his outstanding achievements and efforts in 2016. Cheng won a number of champions in different inter-school indoor and outdoor rowing competitions. Among the scholarship recipients admitted by the School, Cheng is the only one recommended by three schemes simultaneously, including the SSS and SPN.
• Cho Lee Shan from TWGHs Lo Kon Ting Memorial College was admitted to the Professional Accountancy Programme. She is also recommended to CUHK via the SPN. Cho is an awardee of the Sze Pang Nien Memorial Trust Fund Scholarship. The scholarship is co-organised by the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers and Sze Pang Nien Memorial Trust Fund. The scholarship aims to recognise outstanding students from low-income families, who show perseverance in their studies despite economic hardship and difficulties.
• Jason Bootwala, who graduated from HKUGA College, was admitted to the Bachelor of Business Administration (Integrated BBA Programme) and Juris Doctor Double Degree Programme. He was a winner of the Hong Kong Outstanding Student Awards 2017, co-organised by the Youth Arch Foundation and the Outstanding Young Students’ Association. Bootwala shows exceptional talent in theatre and won the Hong Kong School Drama Festival Outstanding Performer Award. His secondary school described him as “a well-rounded and caring student who influences his peers with his optimism.” As a Hong Kong-born Chindian, he was captain of his former school’s soccer team and introduced Indian culture through comedic performance, making him popular among his schoolmates. 

The school admitted another 13 students excelling in sports via the SSS. These athletes have been representing Hong Kong in a variety of sports competitions, including badminton, basketball, handball, swimming, track and field, volleyball and water polo.
