CUHK appoints University Librarian
The Council of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has approved the appointment of Mr Benjamin Meunier as Librarian of the University for an initial term of three years, expected to start in April 2023.
The University Librarian serves as a University Officer and is responsible for overseeing CUHK Library’s operations with effective strategic planning and supervision; enhancing the student learning experience in accordance to the University’s teaching initiatives; developing key collaborative relationships with major stakeholders; strengthening collections of the library for key research areas of the University; and building comprehensive collections across disciplines.
Mr Meunier obtained his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Warwick and his Master of Business Administration from University College London (UCL). He is currently the Director of Operations at UCL Library and has over 16 years of experience overseeing the library’s estates, customer services, human resources, planning, organisation and delivery of administrative services. He will lead the CUHK Library’s strategic development with his vision for a 21st century university library.
Mr Meunier said, “It will be my great honour to serve as University Librarian at CUHK and to lead one of the best research libraries in Asia. I look forward to working with the expert team in CUHK Library. I relish the opportunity to fulfil the library’s mission of advancing research support and digital scholarship, further building the comprehensive collections of CUHK Library, as well as optimising library services and facilities to support the University’s research, education and sustainable development. CUHK 2025 sets the university ambitious goals on the theme of Excellence with Purpose and Responsibility and our library services have a key role to play in enabling the dissemination of knowledge for the benefit of the wider global community and for the benefit of the local communities.”
CUHK Library comprises seven libraries: the University Library, New Asia College Chien Mu Library, Chung Chi College Elisabeth Luce Moore Library, United College Wu Chung Library, Li Ping Medical Library at the local teaching hospital, the Architecture Library and the Lee Quo Wei Law Library. It also jointly manages the Learning Commons on the 6th floor of Wu Ho Man Yuen Building with the Information Technology Services Centre.
