The Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS) announced the main round offer results today. Five top scorers and “super” top scorers chose to study at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)’s Faculty of Medicine (CU Medicine). In 2024/25, the intake quota of each medical school in Hong Kong is 295. CU Medicine admitted 212 Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE) students, accounting for 72% of the CU Medicine’s total intake this year. This also marks the seventh consecutive year in which students admitted through JUPAS account for 70% or more of the total intake. The Global Physician-Leadership Stream (GPS) continues to be the top programme with the highest median admission score among all universities in the territory for the eleventh consecutive year. 

Half of the top 100 DSE students choose CU Medicine, while the intake via JUPAS is >70% for the 7th consecutive year

Starting from this year’s DSE, Citizenship and Social Development replaced Liberal Studies and is only graded into “attained” or “unattained”. For this reason, admission scores are calculated based on six subjects instead of seven.

Five out of eight DSE top scorers (6 subjects or above obtained perfect scores of 5**) who want to study medicine in Hong Kong chose CU Medicine. For those who have obtained 5** in at least 4 subjects and pursue medical studies, 70% joined CU Medicine’s GPS programme.  Figures show that CU Medicine admitted almost half of the top 100 DSE students this year. Since its launch in 2013/14, GPS continues to be the top programme with the highest median admission score among all the universities in the territory for the eleventh consecutive year. Details of 2024/25 admission score of MBChB programmes are as follows:

CU Medicine’s world ranking achieves record high

Professor Philip Chiu, CU Medicine’s Dean, said: “We are very pleased that we continue to attract the majority of students with excellent academic performance and aspire to study medicine in Hong Kong, while maintaining a 70% intake of DSE students. This reflects the continued recognition and popularity of the teaching and research quality at CU Medicine among the academic community, parents, and society.”

We rank 28^th among the top medical schools in the world, first in Hong Kong and second in Asia. In the recently released ‘Best Global Universities Subject rankings 2024-25’ by U.S. News and World Report, we rank 3^rd globally in Gastroenterology and Hepatology for two consecutive years and hold the top spot in Asia along with multiple subjects. These reflect the high regard and recognition for our healthcare education, research, graduate performance, and international connections.”
