CU Medicine admits five “super top scorers” and top scorers
Half of the top 100 elite students are admitted to CUHK, the highest in Hong Kong
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has admitted three “super top scorers” (Level 5** in seven subjects) and two top scorers (Level 5** in six subjects) in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) examination through JUPAS and the School Nominations Direct Admission Scheme this year, the highest among all tertiary institutions in Hong Kong. Five outstanding students will enrol in the Medicine (MBChB) Programme Global Physician-Leadership Stream (GPS) and Medicine (MBChB) Programme. Among the students who achieved level 5** in five subjects, 16 were admitted to CUHK: one to the Faculty of Business Administration, 14 to the Faculty of Medicine and one to the Faculty of Science. CUHK has admitted half of Hong Kong’s top 100 elite students in their best five HKDSE subjects and the number of levels 5** and 5*, representing the highest proportion among all institutions in Hong Kong. Of these, 43 students were admitted to the Faculty of Medicine, while the remaining seven were admitted to the Faculty of Business Administration and the Faculty of Science. This is the third consecutive year that CUHK has admitted half or more of the top 100 elite students.
This year, CUHK has admitted 3,019 undergraduate students through JUPAS, of whom more than 99% are Band A students. The proportion of students admitted through JUPAS has exceeded 80% for three consecutive years. Professor Andy Wong, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at CUHK, said: “The majority of Hong Kong students participated in JUPAS, covering various social strata. Over the years, CUHK has been committed to JUPAS students and will do its best to nurture them. We live up to the trust placed in us by more than 3,000 outstanding students every year.”
The eight faculties of CUHK provide a wide selection of programme options to cater for the diverse development of students. Fifteen CUHK programme/streams have admitted top students with a score of 33 or above in their best five HKDSE subjects, including Architectural Studies, Artificial Intelligence: Systems and Technologies, Biomedical Sciences, Computer Science and Engineering, Enrichment Mathematics, Enrichment Stream in Theoretical Physics, Global Business Studies, Integrated Bachelor of Business Administration Programme, Insurance, Financial and Actuarial Analysis, Medicine (MBChB) Programme, Medicine (MBChB) Programme Global Physician-Leadership Stream (GPS), Nursing, Quantitative Finance, Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Science, and Science, highlighting CUHK as a cradle of all-round talent.
Fifteen students have been admitted to CUHK this year through the Multi-faceted Excellence Scholarship Scheme and 102 students through the School Principal’s Nominations Scheme. They were recognised for achievements in fields such as sports, arts and culture, and voluntary service. Individual students have performed well in triathlon, pole vault, beach volleyball, fencing and other sports, while others have shown outstanding talents in Cantonese opera and Chinese painting.
Another 11 students were admitted this year via the Sports Scholarship Scheme, in recognition of their outstanding achievements in sports including athletics, cross-country racing, swimming, badminton, basketball, handball and rugby. Among them, eight are members of Hong Kong Junior Squad and three are elite athletes in the Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation.
CUHK has always been committed to providing equal educational opportunities for all students. This year, five students with special educational needs were admitted. The University will provide a variety of support and services based on the learning needs of these students to help them adapt to their studies and university life.
