Consul General of Italy in Hong Kong and Macau Alessandro De Pedys Lectured at CUHK
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) presented a public lecture by Mr. Alessandro De Pedys, Consul General of Italy in Hong Kong and Macau, on “Europe and Asia: Challenges for the 21st Century” today (1 February) on campus. About two hundred guests attended the lecture, including CUHK staff and students, and various foreign consuls.
In the lecture, Mr. Alessandro De Pedys drew on his international experience and shared with the audience his insights on the challenges faced by Europe and Asia in the 21st century.
Joining the Foreign Service in Italy in 1989, Mr De Pedys was sent by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to serve abroad as Head of the Economics Department in the Italian Embassy in Seoul, Korea in 1992. In 1996, he was posted as First Secretary to the Italian Embassy in London, where in 1999, he was confirmed as Counsellor. Returning to Rome in 2000, he was responsible for press and political affairs at the Information Services Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was then appointed as Deputy Chief of Delegation for the organization of the Italian Presidency of the European Union in 2002. From 2004, he served in the Office of the Diplomatic Counsellor to the President of the Italian Republic and was awarded the honour of Commendatore dell’Ordine al Merito della Repubblica in the year that followed. He assumed his duties as Consul General of Italy in Hong Kong and Macau in February, 2007.
CUHK has been organizing the Consuls-General / diplomats lecture series since 2005. A number of famous diplomats, including the Consuls-General of the USA, UK, Japan, France, Korea, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to PRC, and the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of PRC in Hong Kong have delivered lectures on CUHK campus.
