Chung Chi College (CCC) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) held the Project E Twin Building foundation stone laying ceremony today (25 October), marking the start of construction of the building. Project E is a twin building located at the site of the old staff quarters, Block E, and will include a student hostel with 300 places, a Digital Culture and Art Creativity Centre, an Alumni Activity Centre and more. It is expected to be completed in the 2026-27 academic year, providing modern campus facilities for students, staff and alumni.

Over 150 guests, members of the University and supporters of the College attended the ceremony to celebrate this new milestone in the College’s campus development. Officiating at the ceremony were Dr Norman Chan Tak-lam, Vice-Chairman of the CUHK Council and Chairperson of the CCC Board of Trustees (CCC Board); Mr Kenneth Chen Wei-on, Vice-President (Administration) of CUHK; Professor Kwan Mei-po, Head of Chung Chi College; Mr Terence Chan Chun-wing, Treasurer of the CCC Board; Mr Eric Chan Cho-biu, Convenor of the Campus Facilities Subcommittee, Development Committee of the CCC Board; and Mr Ricky Cheng Man-shan, Convenor of the Fundraising Subcommittee, Development Committee of the CCC Board.

The ceremony coincided with the 73rd anniversary of the College. Dr Chan expressed his delight at seeing generations of Chung Chi-ers working together to pass on the college’s spirit. “With the support of many Chung Chi-ers and community leaders, Project E has raised HK$47 million, reaching a quarter of our target. We will redouble our fundraising efforts to honour the hard work and dedication of our founders.”

Professor Kwan emphasised the importance of sustainability and green architectural design to Project E. She added that she expected the twin building to create a comfortable, sustainable campus environment for students, staff and alumni, while also encouraging the integration of sustainable practices into college life.

The Project E Twin Building is located adjacent to University MTR Station, with a total construction floor area of about 12,000 square metres. The high block includes a student hostel with 300 places and the Digital Culture and Art Creativity Centre, while the low block contains staff quarters with 24 units and the Alumni Activity Centre, along with sky gardens that will create a green environment. With its prime location and diverse facilities, Project E will become a crucial interaction platform for interdisciplinary talent and a new landmark at CUHK. The demolition of the old staff quarters began right after the groundbreaking ceremony last August and was completed earlier this year. The entire project will be completed in the 2026-27 academic year.
