Biography of Speaker:

Prof. LAU Kwok-ying received his Ph.D. in Philosophy from University of Paris I. He is Emeritus Professor at the Department of Philosophy, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He was Programme Director of M.A. in Philosophy and Head of Graduate Division of Philosophy at CUHK, Director of Edwin Cheng Foundation Asian Centre for Phenomenology, and Visiting Professor at various universities in France and Taiwan. His monographs include, among others, Phenomenology and Intercultural Understanding: Toward a New Cultural Flesh (2016) (awarded the Edwin Ballard Prize for the Best Book in Phenomenology 2019 by the Center for Advanced Research in Phenomenology, USA) and Traces of Phenomenology in France: From Sartre to Derrida (in Chinese, 2018). He is editor of Infinite Horizons: Professor Lao Sze-Kwang as Scholar and Thinker (in Chinese, 2003), Traveling at Ease Across a Thousand Schools: A Festschrift for Lao Sze-Kwang in Honour of His Eightieth Birthday (in Chinese, 2010) and several books by Professor Lao Sze-Kwang, including Lectures on Philosophy of Culture (in Chinese, 2002) and one of the editors in chief of A New Compilation of Professor Lao Sze-Kwang’s Academic Works (13 volumes, 1998-2001).

Remarks:

• Free seating is made on a first-come-first-served basis.

• Visitors without a CU Link card are still required to register details of their Hong Kong ID cards (or other identification documents). Alumni can present CUHK Library Cards or CUHK Alumni Credit Cards at the campus entrance.

• Admission for registered participants will start 30 minutes before the event. Please reserve ample time for registration at the University entrance (if necessary).

• In the interest of public health, all participants must wear surgical masks throughout the event and undergo body temperature screening before entering the venue. Those with body temperature of 37.5°C or above will not be allowed to attend the event.

• Hand sanitiser will be provided at the venue entrance for participants.

• Walk-in registration is not available.
