Biography of Speaker:

Graduated in Rome obtaining a degree of Master of Philosophy, Master of Theology, and Ph.D. in Theological Ethics, majoring in social ethics and marriage ethics. Fr. Thomas Kwan served in different capacities including student affairs and counseling master for secondary school, pastoral counselor of theological students, rector of seminary, dean of theology division and professor of theological ethics. For thirty years since the 1970s, he actively participated in social caring movements in Hong Kong especially helping workers and the marginalized strata of society, in matters related to their welfare and housing. This period of social service was later succeeded by service of family ethical education and marriage counseling.

Starting with 21th Century, he began to focus on the deeper spiritual needs of society, in looking at spiritual care and education. Since 2008, he initiated a program of spiritual education for secondary teachers under the Education Faculty of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is entitled “Spiritual Education – the Ultimate Concern of Learning and Teaching” training and research project.

In order to address the pressure created by the gap between education policy and qualities of students, the mission of Inspired Spiritual Education is to provide teachers with training to look interiorly at maintaining their original values and heart in teaching, upholding a balanced psychological and healthy spiritual state of mind in order that they may be more equipped to help bringing up a new generation of youth with healthy psychological and spiritual qualities.
