Unravelling diabetes- A Journey in Time
Diabetes is a common chronic disease, characterized by elevated glucose, which affects more than 530 million people worldwide. Individuals with diabetes have increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, and other co-morbidities. Diabetes is broadly classified into type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and a form restricted to pregnant women, gestational diabetes, though there is increasing drive to identify further subgroups for more personalized treatment. Asia is the epicentre of the global diabetes pandemic, though the reason for the high rates in Asia is not entirely clear.
