3943-1911
How can we understand the cultural politics of identity in Hong Kong better by looking at the “before” and “after” of the protest movement of 2014? This talk will discuss three representative cases of young activists who joined the Umbrella Movement. In contrast to the existing literature on social movements which focus on the moments of mobilization, Prof. Ip will focus on the moments before and after mobilizations, and especially on online curative practices and cultural representation. Such practices figure in youngsters’ struggles over repositioning themselves in a political landscape featuring de-institutionalization and shrinking space of civil society.
All are welcome.
