Biography of Speaker:

Cyril Tuschi was born in 1969 in Frankfurt. After Philosophy studies in Frankfurt in the late 1980s, he opened a nightclub and worked at a theatre in Stuttgart. In 1992, his first short film, FRANKFURT AT THE SEASIDE was invited to several festivals in Germany. Shortly after that he was enrolled at the Film Academy Baden-Wuerttemberg.. After some time as Musicvideo and Commercial director, Tuschi produced his feature debut SLIGHT CHANGES IN TEMPERATURE AND MIND (2004), which won the audience award at the filmfestival of german film – Ludwigshafen. In 2011 his feature length documentary about the Russian imprisoned billionaire KHODORKOVSKY won the main prize at the documentary festival Munich and the French critiques prize at Valenciennes Filmfestival. Tuschi now focuses with his company LALA FILMS on script development and international co-productions of fictional & documentary topics of political and moral urgency. In co-production with Port-au-Prince Film, LALA FILMS currently prepares a fictional feature film, CIRCLES OF TRUST, about the whistleblowers Julian Assange, Bradley Manning and Edward Snowden, told through the eyes of a yet unknown whistleblower. Early 2015 Cyril Tuschi finished DIGITAL DISSIDENTS, a feature length documentary about motives of Whistleblower, and 2016 in the summer, RUSSIAN RESISTANCE, the sequel to KHODORKOVKSY, will have its international premiere. In development are two new documentaries: one about the widow of Alexander Litvinenko, WIFE OF THE SPY and the other about Hippie Kindergarden: KINDERLADEN. On the fictional side LALA FILMS develops – in collaboration with NOKIA – the first long fiction feature in 360 VR in Europe: RUN HUNTER – and the high profile drama THE IMMORTALS VR.

Event Details:

On 20th October, OUGE and Goethe-Institut are going to co-present the campus-screening of the renowned German film “Digital Dissidents ” by Cyril Tuschi. Hope that the screening followed with a talk by the director can really inspire our students and colleagues, to think more deeply on the issues of global justice and freedom.

Synopsis of Lecture:

About the Film Whistleblowers: patriots or traitors? Do the secrets they reveal ultimately liberate or damage their nation and its citizens? “Digital Dissidents” delves deep into the heart of what it means to be a whistleblower and the nature of their quest to disclose radical truths hidden from society, offering a poignant insight into the personal experiences of the most famous whistleblowers of the 21st century. Including Julian Assange and Edward Snowden, it asks what drives them to blow the whistle? What is so wrong with the surveillance climate in our current culture?
