Guest Conductor: Dr Eric Stark
In a dynamic career that combines performance, scholarship and collaborative leadership, conductor Eric Stark is the Professor of Music, Director of Graduate Studies and Assistant Chair of the School of Music at Butler University’s Jordan College of the Arts. There he conducts the Butler Chorale, teaches graduate and undergraduate conducting and choral literature, and serves as coordinator of the vocal and choral areas. His former conducting students have received appointments at leading choral positions around the United States, including Princeton University, University of Wisconsin, San Francisco Girls Chorus and Los Angeles Opera. He received the doctoral degree in choral conducting from Indiana University, where he was a student of Jan Harrington, Robert Porco, and Thomas Dunn. Stark has led performances of a number of major choral-orchestral works. As a chorus master, he has prepared choruses for such notable conductors as Raymond Leppard, Jahja Ling, Jesus Lopez-Cobos, Carl St. Clair and Erich Kunzel. With the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir which he serves as artistic director, Stark has released two albums: Mendelssohn’s Elijah (2011) and From East to West (2005), a holiday compilation. Stark is also a volunteer pilot for Angel Flight, a non-profit network of pilots providing free air transportation for those with medical needs.

Dr Eric Stark, who conducted a choral masterclass with CU Chorus back in 2013, will revisit Hong Kong this year and give his Hong Kong concert debut. The concert will present a programme with a number of choral masterpieces selected by Dr Stark himself, from music in the Renaissance to Jazz-inspired pieces in our time. Dr Stark will also give the world première of the complete Frozen Tears trilogy, composed by Tang Lok-Yin across the span of 6 years.
