Objective
The Photography Contest: The Campus Through Your Lens aims to showcase the unique beauty of CUHK through photography, capturing the stunning scenery of the campus from day to night and the vibrant campus life. This competition seeks to highlight CUHK’s charm and encourage photography enthusiasts to express their creativity. Selected entries may also be featured on CUHK Visuals (https://cuhk.hk/visuals), reaching a wider audience, serving as stock photos for future use, and even being considered for publication—an opportunity not to be missed!
Themes
- CUHK Day and Night: Capture the campus scenery with different lighting, weather conditions, or times of the day.
- CUHK Life: Depict interactions among students and staff, academic activities, extracurricular events, and everyday campus moments.
Eligibility
Open to everyone.
Submission Guidelines
- Participants must complete an online application form, submit relevant information and photos, and ensure compliance with the submission specifications and instructions for naming files and providing details.
Judging Criteria
Winners (Champion, First Runner-up, Second Runner-up) will be selected by a panel of professionals invited by CUHK based on:
- Photography skills (30%)
- Composition techniques (30%)
- Theme relevance (25%)
- Creativity (15%)
Awards
- Champion (1 winner): HKD 2,000 and a certificate
- 1st Runner-up (1 winner): HKD 1,000 and a certificate
- 2nd Runner-up (1 winner): HKD 600 and a certificate
- Merit Awards (10 winners): HKD 200 and a certificate each
Announcement of Results
- Results will be announced in June 2025. Winners will be notified individually.
Submission Rules and Instructions
- Submission Limits:
- Each participant may submit up to 8 photos across one or both themes.
- In case of duplicate submissions, only the latest entry will be considered; earlier submissions will not be processed or notified.
- Late submissions will not be accepted.
- Location Restriction:
- All submitted photos must be taken on the CUHK campus (participants must provide details such as shooting time, location, and camera model in the form).
- Legal Responsibility:
- By submitting their work, participants confirm that their entries comply with relevant laws. The organizer will not assume any responsibility for legal violations arising from submissions.
- File Requirements:
- Any type of camera is allowed, but submissions must be in digital format.
- Photos must be uploaded via the electronic application form.
- Files must be in JPEG or RAW format.
- Each photo should include a caption of no more than 40 words in Chinese or English (to be filled in the application form).
- Incomplete files or information will result in disqualification.
- Photo Editing Restrictions:
- Both monochrome and color photos are accepted.
- Watermarks or signatures are not allowed.
- Only minor adjustments such as cropping, brightness, contrast, or color correction are permitted.
- AI-generated photos are not accepted.
- File Naming Format:
- Files should be named as “Name_WorkNumber_Title” (in Chinese or English).
- Original File Retention:
- Participants must retain high-resolution original photo files or negatives for verification purposes. Winners who fail to provide originals will be disqualified.
- Content Restrictions:
- Entries must not contain content that is illegal, unethical, obscene, pornographic, inflammatory, offensive, defamatory, discriminatory, infringing on third-party rights (including intellectual property), or otherwise inappropriate. The organizer reserves the right to reject any entry at its sole discretion.
- Copyright Ownership:
- All submitted works will become the property of the organizer. The organizer reserves the right to use submissions for promotional purposes, exhibitions, and print materials without seeking further consent or paying royalties.
- Right of Rejection:
- The organizer reserves the right to reject any submission without explanation.
- Language Discrepancy Handling:
- In case of discrepancies between the Chinese and English versions of these rules, the Chinese version shall prevail. CUHK reserves the right to interpret, amend, and supplement these rules.
