What will happen when the elements of traditional Cantonese Opera meet with modern jazz improvisation?
The “Music and Imagination in Cantonese Opera” Demonstration Performance and Artist Chat will embark on an amazing cross-cultural exploration! In this performance, Xiqu performing arts creator Jiang Junjie, Cantonese Opera performer Du Yongxin and jazz performer Tang Xiaoqing will break through the traditional stage setting of Cantonese Opera and guide students to understand how contemporary theatrical elements are skillfully integrated into the tradition of Cantonese Opera.
The three performers will demonstrate Cantonese Opera stances, play Nanyin and adapt jazz music on the spot, linking these three elements into a compelling escape story that will delight the audience with an audio-visual feast and a wonderful fusion of Chinese and Western musical cultures. After the performance, the three performers will share with the audience the concepts and techniques of Cantonese Opera and invite them to interact with each other, so that they can understand the charm of the art of Cantonese Opera.
Whether you are a Cantonese Opera lover or a beginner, you can experience the infinite possibilities of Cantonese Opera and music in this exploration of music and imagination, and we look forward to witnessing the collision of cultural fusion and innovative thinking with you!
