Topic 1: Why Stock Recommendations of Analysts in China are Distorted: the Role of Fund Managers Financial analysts often give overly optimistic stock recommendations, with the majority being “Buy”, or “Strong Buy”. Prof. Gu Zhaoyang will discuss the key role institutional investors play in the biased behaviour of analysts. By allocating commission fees and using their personal connections, managers of mutual funds can unduly influence analysts to recommend stocks that the funds have invested in.
Topic 2: Investing in China: Dos and Don’ts Mr. Patrick Cheung Wing-hon, an alumnus and experienced investor, will talk about his investment journey in China, focusing on technology, innovation and consumer-related industries.
