CUHK Hosts the Fourth Forum on University Chinese
The Fourth Forum on University Chinese Forum, focusing on online Chinese teaching and assessment at universities in Hong Kong, was held on 6 August, 2020 through video conferencing. It was jointly organized by the Chinese Language Teaching Development Centre of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature and the T.T. Ng Chinese Language Research Centre of the Institute of Chinese Studies at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Academics, experts, and teachers from various institutions and sectors were invited to give their views, which are conducive to the future development of Chinese language education.
As special teaching arrangements were implemented during the 2019/20 academic year, the institutions in Hong Kong have been keen to introduce online teaching and assessment methods, with examples like utilizing video conferencing services to organize classes and tutorials, evaluating studies on electronic platforms, making use of social media to encourage academic discussions and creating digital learning resources. Opportunities and challenges of developing online teaching were also being discussed. Looking forward to the future, experts from different institutions will continue to explore innovative teaching modes and technologies, attaching importance to traditions while also keeping pace with the progress of our times.
At the Forum, academics and experts from various institutions shared their teaching experience. Prof. Poon Wai Yin, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, gave the opening speech. Prof. Tang Sze Wing, Chairman of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature and Director of the T.T. Ng Chinese Language Research Centre at CUHK, gave the welcoming speech. Dr. Cheung Wing Mui and Dr. Hung Yeuk Chun from CUHK served as moderators. Scholars from various institutions were invited to share their experience, including Dr. HO Wai Chi Vichy from the University of Hong Kong, Dr. Lai Pit Shun from CUHK, Dr. Law Yuen Mei Vicky from City University of Hong Kong, Dr. Xu Xiufen and Mr. Fung Hon Fai Eddy from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Dr. Ng Hok Chung from Hong Kong Baptist University, Dr. Cheng Siu Kei Ken and Dr. Lam On from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Dr. Kan Hon Kin from the The Education University of Hong Kong, as well as Dr. Li Donghui, Dr. Ma Maopeng and Dr. Li Fei from the Lingnan University.
