Dr Lee Shau-kee Pledges to Donate HK$110 million to Support the General Development of The Chinese University of Hong Kong
A donation ceremony was held today between The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Dr the Honourable Lee Shau-kee, GBM. CUHK is deeply grateful for the munificent donation pledge of HK$110 million made by Dr Lee through Lee Shau Kee Foundation for supporting the general development of CUHK. A donation agreement was signed between Dr Lee Shau-kee and Professor Rocky S Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK. Guests witnessing the signing of the donation agreement included: Dr Peter Lee, Vice Chairman, Henderson Land Group; Mr Martin Lee, Vice Chairman, Henderson Land Group; Dr Colin Lam, Vice Chairman, Henderson Land Group; Professor Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President of CUHK; Mr Eric Ng, Vice-President of CUHK and Professor Nelson Chen, Director, School of Architecture of CUHK.
At the donation ceremony, Professor Rocky Tuan expressed his deepest gratitude to Dr Lee for his exemplary generosity. He said, ‘We have been honoured to receive Dr Lee’s longstanding support since the early days of CUHK’s establishment. Dr Lee not only serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of United College, CUHK, but also repeatedly donated to CUHK to grant scholarships to students and support CUHK’s research and teaching. This time, Dr Lee has again made a donation pledge of a substantial amount, enabling CUHK to further strengthen its research and teaching.’
Dr Lee Shau-kee, a renowned businessman, has always been supportive of charitable works, particularly in education. He has been a staunch supporter of CUHK over the past four decades. Dr Lee was a member of the then Advisory Board of the Three-year MBA Programme back in 1977, and has been a Trustee of United College since 1988. He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Social Science, honoris causa and the Honorary Fellowship of CUHK in 1993 and 2002 respectively, in recognition of his outstanding achievement in the business sector, and of his tremendous support for the education.
