The New Asia College of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is privileged to invite Prof. Philip Sun Shu-yue, the founder of the Department of Translation of CUHK and a renowned translator and a multi-disciplinary scholar, as a guest speaker of the 26^th Ch’ien Mu Lecture in History and Culture in April 2013. Professor Sun will deliver three public talks on the English alphabets, Chinese literature and the study of the English language during his visit.

Professor Sun graduated from New Asia College in the 1950s, and obtained his doctorate degree in English Literature at Yale University. He then started his academic career at CUHK and had taught in the Department of Chinese Language & Literature, Department of English, and Department of Translation respectively. Professor Sun was one of the founders of the Department of Translation. He has also taught at the University of Iowa in the US and the National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan. Professor Sun is a renowned scholar in the study of classical Chinese novel and literature and his recent research interest is in the study of ancient English.

1^st Lecture – How Should the English Alphabet be Pronounced?

2^nd Lecture – From Ying-ying to Dai-yu

3^rd Lecture – History and Tradition: What English Should Chinese Learn?

(This talk is co-organized by New Asia College, CUHK and the Hong Kong Museum of History)

A distinguished scholar will be invited to deliver a series of public lectures exploring topics on Chinese history and culture. Starting from 2013, the lecture series is endowed by the Mr. Chan Chi-sun Chinese Culture Fund.
