CUHK Students Swept Top Award in National Technological Competition
Students of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) swept the Hong Kong and Macau Cup in the 10th Challenge Cup held at Nankai University, Tianjin from 15 to 19 November 2007. The Challenge Cup is considered the premier biennial national competition of extra-curricular technological projects of university students. It pools the best young innovative brains from all corners of China. The University was also presented the top award consecutively in previous competitions held in 2003 in Guangzhou and in 2005 in Shanghai.
Two Special Awards were presented to two top projects of the 56 entries from Hong Kong and Macau. Of the six projects entered into the competition by the University, both Special Awards were presented to CUHK’s “Millimetre-Scale Turning Centre” and “Redevelopment of Hongdeng Primary School in Guangxi”. Besides, “h-Shirt” scored the First Award whereas “TransWare”, “DIGI Table” and “Window Tianjin” received the Third Prize.
The 130-member HKSAR delegation from 13 institutions was led by Professor Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, CUHK to participate in the competition. Altogether 44 projects from CUHK, University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong Institute of Education, Shue Yan University, Chu Hai College and Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education were submitted for adjudication. Students from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts also performed in concerts at Nankai University.
The University will hold an exhibition of the six winning projects in January 2008 at the University Library Exhibition Hall.
