CUHK Hosts Public Lecture by Renowned Gender Studies Scholar Herng-Dar BihPublic is Welcome

Following last year’s tremendous success, the Public Lecture Series on Gender Studies 2010, organized by the Gender Studies Programme of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and sponsored by the Lee Hysan Foundation, has invited four world renowned scholars in gender studies to share their research experiences and results with teachers and students, as well as the general public.

The first lecture of the series, ‘I _____ Graffiti’ by Dr. Herng-Dar Bih, Associate Professor of the Graduate Institute of Building and Planning of National Taiwan University, will be held on 27 January. Dr. Bih’s interest in graffiti dates back to his studies in the United States in his early years. He has also published a few books on graffiti in Taiwan. During the lecture, Dr. Bih will examine different forms of graffiti and their relationships with gender. Members of the public are welcome to register for the public lecture. Dr. Bih is widely recognized for his contributions to the development of gender studies in Taiwan. In addition to setting up the Research Center of Gender and Space, Dr. Bih is also the host of various gender studies programmes in Taiwan. His works explore the interactions between the two sexes and space, including living space, public space, and toilet etc. Among his works, Women in Search of Space (1996) and Space is Power (2001) were shortlisted for the Best 10 Books in Taiwan.
