The exhibition features 109 best pieces of Cissy and Robert Tang’s jade collection spanning from Neolithic times to late Qing period with preference for personal ornaments, human-like sculptures and literati accoutrements which illustrate a vivid relationship between jade, a special rock gift from Nature, and the human being who chose to manipulate it as a vehicle to express their spiritual beliefs, social values and personal sentiments over the past millennia. In conjunction with furniture, painting, calligraphy and other Chinese works, the exhibition also aims to create a contemplative space to share the moments of how traditional Chinese literati enjoy their acquisitions. An accompanying exhibition catalogue of Chinese Jades from Cissy and Robert Tang’s Jade Collection presents extensive research and reference for individual pieces is in the charge of Jenny F. So with assistance of Chu Xin and a contribution by Chi Jo-hsin.
