Biography of Speaker:

The workshop will be facilitated by Professor Cheng Yiyang, a translator of Coral Bracho’s poetry collection. Professor Cheng is an Associate Professor and Vice Director of Spanish and Portuguese Language and Literature Department at Peking University. She is also deputy of the China Association for Latin America Studies. Professor Cheng is engaged in research and translation of Spanish language literature and culture. Her principal translations include: Anthology of Octavio Paz, Jaguar Cult, Anthology for Qinghai Lake International Poetry Festival (Spanish Language poems), Flamenco: a Southern Art in Spain, Legend of the Holy Blood, Evil in Love and Liangzhouci (from Chinese to Spanish).

Event Details:

“International Poets in Hong Kong” will soon welcome the Mexican female poet, Coral Bracho, one of the most influential poets and translators in Latin American literature. A series of poetry activities including recitations, symposia and sharing sessions will be held from 21 to 29 September 2015. The public is invited and welcome to participate. A bilingual poetry collection with original texts and Chinese translation for each invited poet will also be published. As one of the distinguished poets, Bracho has published 9 books of poetry, including El ser que va a morir (1981), La voluntad del ámbar (1998), Ese espacio, ese jardín (2004) and Si ríe el emperador (2010). Some of her books were translated into other languages. A 3-day Coral Poetry Workshop will be organized for literature lovers and general public to learn more about Bracho’s works, as well as Latin American culture and literature. The workshop will be facilitated by Professor Cheng Yiyang, a translator of Coral Bracho’s poetry collection.
