Biography of Speaker:

Since 1994, the phenomenal Taiwanese composer Jan Tien-hao has published over a hundred compositions and arrangements, which are well-loved by Chinese choirs at home and abroad. He is currently a full-time composer, Director of Perfect Match Theatre and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Music of Shih Chien University. He has constantly committed himself to Chinese musicals and choral music, and is considered as one of the most important composer for Chinese Musical.

Synopsis of Lecture:

Some twenty years ago, Jan Tien-hao, who was still an undergraduate studying English in the National Chengchi University, got a rare chance to arrange Tyzen Hsiao’s I love Taiwan for choral edition to be published. Since then, he started his career of being a composer for choral music. Although he did not come from a music background, he has composed over ten Chinese musicals including The Edge of Heaven, April Rain and My Dear Next Door and become a phenomenal composer whose work is influential in the field of Chinese Choral works and musical. In the upcoming concert “The Music of Jan Tien-hao” organized by the Chinese University of Hong Kong Chorus, the Chorus will showcase Jan’s choral work of the previous two decades. Jan will also come to Hong Kong before the concert to hold a pre-concert talk in talking about his path of being a composer for choral music and share his stories of the past two decades in the field. The audience are invited to join him at the talk and know about the twenty years of his pursuit of dream.
