CUHK wins a record-breaking 34 awards at the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has won 34 awards at the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva, the highest number ever attained by the University at this prestigious event. These included seven Gold Medals with Congratulations of the Jury, eight Gold Medals, 11 Silver Medals and seven Bronze Medals. Among the 33 innovations, one also received the Thailand Award for the Best International Invention & Innovation, a special prize from the Thailand Ministry of Foreign Affairs. These achievements underscore CUHK’s global leadership in pioneering research and innovation.
CUHK’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Sham Mai-har expressed her heartfelt congratulations to the CUHK research teams. She said: “CUHK’s outstanding achievements at the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva 2025 demonstrate our exceptional strength in global research and innovation. These remarkable results not only showcase our research teams’ relentless pursuit of innovation but also their commitment to transferring knowledge into practical applications. Our interdisciplinary approach harnesses diverse strengths, contributing significantly to technological advancement and human well-being. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all award-winning teams and look forward to their continued brilliance on the global stage.”
At the exhibition, CUHK showcased its success in knowledge transfer, translating research and innovation into tangible benefits and outcomes. Among the 33 teams, 16 were from the Faculty of Medicine, 11 from the Faculty of Engineering, five from the Faculty of Science and one from the Faculty of Social Sciences. These projects span a wide range of disciplines, highlighting the University’s diverse strengths and its leadership in driving technological progress.
The International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva is the largest global exhibition devoted exclusively to inventions. All entries are evaluated by an international jury of 135 specialists. This year’s exhibition featured over 1,050 inventions from 38 countries and regions.

CUHK innovations bagged 33 medals: seven Golds with Congratulations of the Jury, eight Golds, 11 Silvers and seven Bronzes.

CUHK project AI-based Automatic Retinal Image Analysis (ARIA) to Detect Schizophrenia Risk won a Gold Medal and the Thailand Award for the Best International Invention & Innovation.

The project “Fc-engineered CD9 Antibodies for Blood Cancers”, led by Professor Leung Kam-tong, Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, was awarded a Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury.

The project “Battery-free Wireless Keyboard” led by Professor Liao Wei-hsin, Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering, was awarded a Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury.

The project “Magnet Micro-/Nano-robot for Endovascular Treatment” led by Professor Zhang Li , Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering, was awarded a Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury.

The project “O-Spheres SunBlocker - Next Generation Sun Protection Materials”, led by Professor Ngai To, Professor in the Department of Chemistry, was awarded a Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury.

The project “Stress tolerant soybeans for climate-smart agriculture” led by Professor LAM Hon-ming, Choh-Ming Li Professor of Life Sciences in the School of Life Sciences, was awarded a Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury.
